ASUS to Create and Develop New Intel NUC Mini PCs

Intel has recently revealed that ASUS will be its inaugural partner for the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) mini PC venture. Under a non-binding agreement, ASUS will take charge of manufacturing, selling, and providing support for Intel’s 10th- to 13th-generation NUC products. Additionally, ASUS will be responsible for creating upcoming NUC designs. Given ASUS’s existing product range, it is likely that they will develop future NUC mini PCs, DIY kits for mini PCs and laptops, customizable boards, chassis, and other assembly components.

If you recall, Intel recently told ReturnByte that it will end its “direct investment” in its NUC business and no longer produce first-party NUC products. It did not elaborate on its reasoning, but working with partners on non-essential business will free up resources it could use to focus on making chips. Intel previously said its first-quarter earnings beat expectations, but its revenue was still down 36 percent from the same period in 2022. The company also said it is being cautious in this economy.

In announcing the partnership, Intel said ASUS’ “expertise and experience in delivering industry-leading mini PCs to customers makes it ideally suited to continue driving innovation and growth in NUC system products.” ASUS is setting up a new business unit called “ASUS NUC BU” for all things Intel’s NUC. However, the manufacturer will receive a non-exclusive license to Intel’s NUC systems, which will allow the chipmaker to collaborate with several companies in the future.
